SANTA PAULA : Youth Track Meet to Be Held Saturday

The annual Jesse Owens track meet will be held Saturday at the Santa Paula High School track field.
Competitions will be divided into four age categories for boys and girls born from 1979 through 1986. Proof of age is required to register. The free event is co-sponsored by the Santa Paula Recreation Department and the Santa Paula Blazers Track Club.
Events will include races from 50 to 1,500 meters and a long jump, softball throw and high jump.
Registration will begin at 8:15 a.m., with the meet scheduled to start at 9 a.m. at the Santa Paula High School track field.
Winners will receive ribbons and be eligible to compete in the district Jesse Owens meet scheduled for May in Santa Maria. Others will receive participation buttons.
“The main goal is to get the kids participating,” said Ed Mount of the city’s recreation department. For further information, call the department at 933-4217.
