Nelson, The Times Orange County athlete of the year in cross-country, is making her mark on the track as well. Nelson won the 1,600 meters Saturday at the Trabuco Hills Invitational, finishing in a school- and meet-record time of 5 minutes 6.17 seconds. The time was a personal best by 18 seconds for Nelson, who finished second in the State Division II cross-country championships. Nelson ran at an even pace, passing leader Barbara Boisvert of Loara with a lap remaining and easily held off Esperanza’s Carrie Caulkins, who finished second in 5:09.68. Nelson’s time is thought to be the best in the county this season.
Other top performers:
Stephanie Carew had both RBIs in Brea-Olinda’s 2-1 victory over Sunny Hills. She drove in the first run with a single in the first inning and hit a home run in the eighth.
Brooke Hofstetter pitched her third no-hitter of the season, her second in a row, in Brethren Christian’s 2-0 Olympic League victory over Whittier Christian.
Alleah Poulson was nine for 13 with a home run and seven RBIs in three games for Irvine. Poulson is batting .670 in Sea View League games and .444 for the season.
Meisha Wilson-Duval, a Woodbridge runner, won the 400 meters at the Trabuco Hills Invitational, finishing in 59.14. In a dual meet victory over University, Wilson-Duval won the 100 (12.6), 200 (27.0) and ran on two winning relay teams.
