LOS ANGELES : A Rare Day in L.A.: Not One Homicide
- Share via
Hardly a day goes by when someone is not shot, stabbed or beaten to death somewhere in Los Angeles County, but just such a day occurred, a coroner’s spokesman said Wednesday.
“Occasionally it happens, but it’s not very common,” said Scott Carrier. “It might happen once or twice a year. And what the significance is, heaven only knows.”
The coroner’s office investigates about five homicides a day in this county, where a record is set almost annually for the number of murders. But no homicides were reported during the 24-hour period ending Wednesday morning. “I think this time it’s because of the law enforcement on the street. I think that surely has something to do with it,” Carrier said.
Others credited calls for peace by community and civic leaders.
