PENNIES & HEAVEN: Some kindergartners may draw pictures and master the alphabet. At Marian Bergeson Elementary in Laguna Niguel, they’re worrying about the rain forest and doing something about it. . . . About 1,000 pupils there have pitched in $700 worth of pennies to help buy and preserve 20 acres of rain forest in Brazil. It’s part of the Nature Conservancy’s Adopt an Acre program. Says kindergarten teacher Nona Reimer, who organized it: “Maybe someday we can take a field trip” to the land.
