COLLEGE SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : Titans Sweep, Lead Big West

Cal State Fullerton swept a doubleheader with Nevada Las Vegas Friday at Titan Softball Complex to move into first place in the Big West Conference.
The Titans (32-17, 20-5 in conference play) are percentage points ahead of Utah State (23-7) and a half game in front of UNLV (32-13-1, 20-6-1).
Fullerton won the first game, 1-0, when Marci White scored on a throwing error by shortstop Lisa Wilkins-Eame in the seventh. The Titans won the second game, 1-0, scoring when Denise DeWalt doubled in a run in the first inning.
In the NAIA District 3 softball playoffs:
Southern California College 3, Cal Baptist 0--Beth Howard and Shannon Saylor combined on a five-hit shutout, moving SCC (39-17-2) a victory away from the District 3 title.
Jennifer Caruso and Renee Hernandez each had RBIs helping SCC beat Cal Baptist (25-23). The teams will play today at 2 p.m. A victory by Cal Baptist would force a second game at 4 p.m.
Earlier Friday, Carrie Nelson and Angie Vega both had RBI singles as SCC eliminated Azusa Pacific, 2-0. Howard and Saylor combined on a five-hitter in that game also.
In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. softball:
Chapman 5, CS Dominguez Hills 2--Chapman rallied with five runs in the top of the seventh. Wendy Clemens, who had three hits, drove in the first two runs with a double.
Viki Vechinski (14-13) allowed six hits, struck out six and didn’t walk a batter for the Panthers.
Chapman 7, CS Bakersfield 5--Trailing, 5-4, in the sixth to the second-ranked team in NCAA Division II, Chapman scored three runs on consecutive singles by Rachel Fieber, Vicky Cavadias and Trisha Cox.
