STANTON : Civic Center Opening Scheduled for July

The $5-million Civic Center is scheduled to open in mid-July despite spring rains that slowed construction, according to David Holmes, project manager.
The City Council on Tuesday approved bids for the signs, telephones and the sound and filing systems for the city’s new offices.
In a letter to the city, Holmes said furniture and carpet should be delivered in the last week of June, which would allow two weeks to test the telephone, sound and filing systems.
Despite the predictions, City Clerk Darleen Cordova said the city staff is not counting on opening the new city hall on a specific date.
“They’re saying everything’s just going to fall together at the same time,” Cordova said. “But we’ll have to see. It’s just like moving into a house. You never know if it’s going to be finished that day or not.”
The new City Hall is on Cedar Street, across from the public library.
