Even if RuPaul turns out to be another music-factory gimmick surrounded by skillful singers and producers, the drag diva does bring the New York City gay vibe out of the closet with a presence not seen since the Village People ruled. With playful bounce, catty lyrics and gospel-influenced keyboards, RuPaul is one of the first widely known artists to do justice to that post-disco sound called house music.
