La Habra Stumbles in Fourth Quarter

LA HABRA — Dean Blakley’s 26-yard run with nine minutes left broke a tie and helped give Chino Hills Ayala to a 17-7 victory over La Habra Friday night.
Blakley’s touchdown was four plays after Brent Ashcroft intercepted a pass by the Highlander’s Sonje Berg.
Berg was intercepted three times and fumbled once. La Habra had eight turnovers overall.
The Bulldogs struck first, with quarterback Ben Sousa passing to Eric Heaukulani for a 49-yard touchdown midway through the second quarter.
La Habra (0-2) answered with less than two minutes left in the half when Berg found Will McIntosh for a 13-yard touchdown pass.
The Highlanders’ had an opportunity to take the lead late in the third quarter when they faced a first-and-goal situation at Ayala’s one-yard line.
However, Ayala (1-0-1) stopped La Habra on four running plays, with Tyler Sewell stuffing Colin Sutherland on fourth down.
Sousa completed 12 of 23 passes for 217 yards. Blakley combined with Rocky O’Brien for 129 yards rushing.
