SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : School Enrollment Unexpectedly High
- Share via
School enrollment increased to about 31,400 students in the Capistrano Unified School District this fall, about 520 more students than expected, officials said.
With the unexpected growth, mainly centered at the district’s new high-tech Aliso Niguel High School, officials scrambled to order more textbooks and hire additional teachers.
Arroyo Vista in Rancho Santa Margarita and Foxborough School in Aliso Viejo also experienced greater-than-expected increases, officials said.
Supt. James A. Fleming said one reason for the high growth, especially at Aliso Niguel, is that many parents pulled their children from private schools to enroll them in the public schools.
Only one school in the district, Del Obispo Elementary in San Juan Capistrano, experienced a slight decline from official projections.
