30% of U.S. Bank Assets in Foreign Hands: The figure is significantly more than previously estimated, according to Federal Reserve Board data. The larger market share reflects about $329 billion in offshore assets the Fed has calculated for the first time. As of March 31, foreign banks held $1.2 trillion in U.S. loans and securities, according to American Banker estimates based on Fed data. That represents about 30.5% of the $3.9-trillion U.S. market.
