‘Jerry Lewis . . . Unlimited’

As a member of the audience at the same performance of “Jerry Lewis . . . Unlimited” that was reviewed in The Times on Oct. 23, I was surprised and disappointed by the negative review (“ ‘Jerry Lewis’: Corny, Outdated, Slapshtick”). There is room in the world for many styles of entertainment, and Lewis is a master of his craft. I loved the show.
What bothered me the most about the review is that Lawrence Christon neglected to mention that the audience that night was extremely receptive and enthusiastic. There was a lot of energy in the hall and Lewis received two standing ovations. Critics are certainly entitled to express their opinions, but I think that when a performance is given an unfavorable review, an overwhelmingly positive audience response should be noted.
