Labatt Sues Rival Brewers Miller, Molson: Canadian brewer John Labatt has sued the beer makers alleging trademark infringement over so-called “ice beer” products. Toronto-based Labatt said it filed for trademark protection for the ice-brewing process and for the resulting product in November, 1992. The application is pending. In the suit filed in Detroit, Labatt claims that Milwaukee-based Miller Brewing Co. and its subsidiary Molson Breweries USA are guilty of unfair trade practices in the promotion of their ice beer products in the United States. Miller spokeswoman Susan Henderson said the Labatt lawsuit was without merit.
