Guns at School

Bill Boyarsky’s plea for more gun control laws (Nov. 17) misses the point. The very notion that children see a need to arm themselves exposes a grave malady in our society. Such a fundamental flaw will not be corrected by more legislation, but by parents teaching their children how to deal maturely with inevitable human conflicts.
The innocent students who are simply trying to protect themselves from the violence around them in our city schools should be rescued. Remember, as adults we are supposed to protect our children from harm.
The actual troublemakers themselves, the youthful armed predators-in-training who create this awful environment in our schools, should be separated from the rest of society.
We should not blame innocents for the misdeeds of criminals. TIMOTHY WHEELER MD Doctors for Responsible Gun Ownership Upland
