Tom Danley, Katella’s coach since the dawn of time, or so it seems, will reach the 500-victory milestone, probably within the week. He is 499-201 at Katella and has been the Knights’ only coach since the school opened in 1966.
“You stay around long enough and you could get to 1,000 victories,” Danley said. “It’s a matter of attrition and age.”
Danley should age a little slower this season. Guard Nick Roditis, 6-8 center Mike Pahl and 6-5 forward LeByron Clayton are returning. Danley will leave that 500-victory plateau in the dust.
