Nicole Erickson’s free throws to open the second half of Brea-Olinda’s 65-49 victory over Mater Dei on Saturday gave her the school’s career-scoring record.
Erickson surpassed Aimee McDaniel, who scored 1,797 points from 1987-90, with her 10th point of the night. She finished with 20 points, giving her 1,808 with six regular-season games remaining.
If she maintains her 16-point average, her projected 2,032 points would place her 10th on the Southern Section all-time career scoring list.
After the game, she downplayed the record. “It’s nice,” she said, “but what I’m looking for won’t be until March.”
The State finals are March 19.
