Slater Wins Surfing Event

Kelly Slater of Cocoa Beach, Fla., won the Body Glove at Seaside Reef in Cardiff, the second stop on the Bud Surf Tour, Sunday in four-foot waves.

Slater won $4,000. Rob Machado of Cardiff was second, which was worth $2,000. Richie Collins ($1,500) was third and Marty Thomas ($1,200) of Long Beach finished fourth.

Harry Antipala of La Jolla won the first place and $1,500 in the bodyboard competition. Brain Wise ($600) of San Clemente was third and Jay Reale ($400) of San Clemente was fourth.

Two other San Clemente residents--Josh Baxter and Jeff Krammer--were second and third in the longboard competition. Baxter won $750 and Krammer got $500.
