ROUNDUP : Conrad Sets School Shotput Record in Brea-Olinda Girls’ Track Victory

Marsha Conrad broke a 9-year-old school shotput record and helped Brea-Olinda to a 93-34 victory over Magnolia in an Orange League track and field meet Thursday at Brea-Olinda.
Conrad’s mark of 35 feet 6 inches breaks Kim Dearman’s 1985 record of 34-2 1/2. It also comes on the heels of the junior’s record-breaking discus mark last week in the Brea Unocal relays. Conrad’s mark of 113-5 broke her school record from last year.
Brea-Olinda improved to 5-3, 2-0.
In another Orange League meet:
Valencia 73, Western 25--Jenny Gonzales won the 800 (2:48) and 1,600 (6:29.5) for Valencia (2-1, 2-0).
In the Century League:
Canyon 97, Orange 25--Dawn Brown took first in the 200 (27.7) and 400 (1:00.6) for Canyon (2-0, 2-0).
In the Empire League:
Los Alamitos 70, Loara 57--For Loara (2-2, 0-2), Pearl Mercer won the 100 (12.8) and 200 (27.4), and Ellen Hsu won the long jump (13-9 3/4) and triple jump (31-4).
Esperanza 87, Cypress 25--Kelly O’Conner won the long jump (16-6 3/4), triple jump (35-3) and discus (101-3) for Esperanza (2-0 in league).
In the Pacific Coast League:
Estancia 104, Laguna Beach 20--Tracie Manz won the 100 (12.1) and 220 (28.6) and Jolene Schoenert won the 440 (1:07) and 330 hurdles (57.0) and both were on winning relay teams for Estancia (2-1, 2-0).
In the Freeway League:
Buena Park 88, Sunny Hills 38--Carrie Garritson won the 880 (2:28), the mile (5:57) and the two-mile (12:07) for Buena Park (1-1 in league).
La Habra 91, Fullerton 30--Emela Herrera won the 100 (13.6), 200 (28.1) and the 100 hurdles (17.4) for La Habra.
In the Sea View League:
Newport Harbor 73, Saddleback 54--Gina Heads bettered her county season highs in the shotput and discus for Newport Harbor (4-0). Heads put the shot 45-1 and the threw the discus 134-8.
In a Century League boys’ track and field meet:
Orange 73, Canyon 52--Jeff Williams won the 100 (11.0), 200 (23.3) and 300 hurdles for Orange (2-0, 1-0).
In the Freeway League:
Sunny Hills 77, Buena Park 49--Garrett Jensen won the mile (4:52.7) and the two-mile (10:37) for Sunny Hills. George McDonald won the 100 (10.2) and the 220 (23.2) for Buena Park (1-1 in league).
In the Empire League:
Esperanza 90, Cypress 46--Brad Kircher won the discus (155-0) for Esperanza (2-0 in league).
Los Alamitos 92, Loara 40--Sophomore Corey Johnson won the high jump (6-8 1/2) for Los Alamitos (4-0, 2-0). It is the best jump in Orange County this season.
In the Orange League:
Valencia 85 1/2, Western 47 1/2--Jeremy Miller won the 800 (2:15.0) and 1,600 (4:54.0) for Valencia (2-1, 2-0). Teammate Jeremiah Springer won both hurdle events, finishing the 100 in 16.3 and the 300 in 41.4.
Brea-Olinda 85, Magnolia 51--Roger Wirz won the 800 (2:03.1), 300 hurdles (42.9) and pole vault (13-6) for Brea-Olinda (6-4, 1-1).
In Sunset League baseball:
Westminster 14, Santa Ana 0--Aristeo Rodriguez had two doubles and two RBIs and Kent Montgomery got his fifth victory for Westminster (10-5, 3-1).
In nonleague softball:
Canyon 7, Savanna 0--Jamie Al-Moradi was three for four with two RBIs for Canyon (8-4).
Costa Mesa 13, Riverside La Sierra 0 (5, mercy)--Niki Montgomery pitched a no-hitter for Costa Mesa (5-6), striking out five. Fullerton 3, Kennedy 0 (8)--Angie Fancuberta, who had 12 strikeouts, lost her perfect game when Kennedy got an eighth-inning hit. Fullerton is 6-9.
Esperanza 6, Valencia 4--Kelli Fox’s three-run triple in the fifth inning helped secure the victory for Esperanza (6-4).
Sonora 10, Anaheim 0--Cindy Cook recorded her second consecutive shutout for Sonora (9-8). Cook also had four hits.
Sunny Hills 3, Brea-Olinda 0--Catcher Megumi Takasaki had two hits and scored two runs for host Sunny Hills (7-6). Jennifer Deane record her fourth shutout of the season and struck out seven.
Rosary 6-4, Century 0-1--Nicola Walsh (2-0) pitched a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts in the first game for Rosary (5-3). In Game 2, she had 10 strikeouts.
In nonleague boys’ swimming:
El Toro 93, Trabuco Hills 77--Junior Terry Dougherty finished first in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.64) and 200 freestyle (1:50.06) for El Toro (7-1).
In nonleague girls’ swimming:
El Toro 128, Trabuco Hills 40--Christine Kennedy paced El Toro (7-0-1). She won the 200 (2:02.96) and 500 (5:21.68) freestyles, and swam on the winning 200 medley (2:05.05) and 400 freestyle (4:06.23) relay teams.
In Century League tennis:
Orange 10 2/3, Canyon 10 1/3--Josh O’Neill remained undefeated this season (27-0) as he swept his sets, 7-6, 6-3, 6-1, leading Orange (8-1, 1-0) over ninth-ranked Canyon (10-2, 2-1).
