A 2-year-old Oxnard girl running to an ice cream vendor’s truck was struck by a car and killed Friday night in Oxnard, police said.
Ashley Mendez darted out from between two cars on Fournier Street just as Cas Dominguez, 27, was driving by. Dominguez stopped the car and began to give first aid to the girl. She was taken by ambulance to St. John’s Regional Medical Center, where she died from her injuries.
Dominguez was driving within the speed limit, according to witnesses, and police do not anticipate an arrest, Oxnard Police Cmdr. Jeff Young said. “It doesn’t appear that there was anything he could have done.”
