HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Delgado, Poly Sting First-Place Sylmar With Four Runs in 7th Inning

Jerry Delgado’s pitching and hitting powered visiting Poly High to a 6-2 victory over first-place Sylmar in an East Valley League baseball game Thursday.
Delgado, a senior right-hander, held Sylmar (24-4, 15-1 in league play) to three hits, striking out four. In the seventh, Delgado delivered a two-run double that snapped a 2-2 tie and triggered the winning four-run uprising.
Poly (21-4, 13-3) tagged Sylmar starter Carlos Velazco (10-2) for 10 hits.
Chatsworth 16, Reseda 5--Bryan LaCour was three for five with four RBIs, leading the visiting Chancellors (23-4, 14-1) in a Northwest Valley Conference game. Tony Montiel was three for five for Chatsworth. Jim DeBiase pitched a complete game, giving up one earned run.
Granada Hills 7, Cleveland 0--Jim Landress was two for three with three RBIs and Tom O’Brien was two for four with two RBIs for the visiting Highlanders in a Northwest Valley Conference game.
John Bolyard pitched a six-hitter with four strikeouts and three walks for Granada Hills.
Kennedy 11, San Fernando 6--The Golden Cougars scored eight runs in the first inning, most of them coming on six consecutive hits.
Terrmel Sledge highlighted it with a three-run double. Kevin Serr hit a three-run home in the sixth.
Taft 10, El Camino Real 4--Greg Venger was two for four with three RBIs, including a two-run single off Randy Wolf, that gave the host Toreadors (14-12, 9-6) the lead in a Northwest Valley Conference game. Dusty Cook pitched a complete game for Taft, striking out eight.
Saugus 6, Upland 5--The Centurions’ Darren Hoevel singled in the go-ahead run with two out in the 10th inning of a Southern Section Division II first-round playoff game at Upland.
Brandon Hernandez hit a two-run home run and pitched 3 2/3 innings of hitless relief to pick up the victory for the Centurions.
L.A. Lutheran 8, Buckley 5--Buckley scored three times in the top of the first but Lutheran answered with seven runs in its first three at-bats of the Division VI playoff opener.
