Panel to Review Adelante Study
The Community Advisory Committee will hear a progress report on the Adelante Eastside study and review its recommendations at a Wednesday meeting in El Sereno.
The report, also called the Eastside Redevelopment Feasibility Study, was completed two years ago, but officials are following through on the study’s recommendations that commercial and industrial corridors be developed to increase the local tax base.
An ongoing study of local commercial and industrial areas will determine whether government redevelopment funds can be used to revitalize those corridors in Boyle Heights and El Sereno.
Among the Adelante Eastside study’s findings was that most residents in a 10-square-mile area of Boyle Heights and El Sereno leave the area to shop. It also found that most of the local housing is among the city’s oldest and in desperate need of repair. For now, though, officials have dropped the housing component of the revitalization efforts and are focusing on the commercial and industrial corridors.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the El Sereno Senior Citizens Center, 4818 Klamath Place.
