HOLLYWOOD : Carwash Held to Pay for Burial of Slain Student
- Share via
Friends and classmates of Rolando Ruiz, the Hollywood High sophomore slain on the school lawn this week, had a carwash Friday on the corner of Cahuenga and Las Palmas boulevards to try and raise money for his burial.
Ruiz’s father, Rolando Ruiz Sr., said Thursday that he doubts he will be able to pay for his son’s funeral. Ruiz, his wife and four children have lived in Hollywood since they arrived in the country eight years ago from Nicaragua.
The younger Rolando Ruiz was shot Wednesday as school was letting out. Police say he was a gang member; friends say he had been trying to straighten out his life. A group of boys in gang attire were seen fleeing the scene.
