A Colorado man who stopped in Fillmore with car trouble found himself behind bars after Ventura County sheriff’s deputies discovered about $53,000 worth of cocaine in his vehicle, authorities said Monday.
Salvador Valadezcruz, 35, of Colorado Springs was arrested at 11:58 p.m. Sunday at Ventura and Saratoga streets, where he had pulled over because of car trouble, narcotics Detective Mike Horne said.
Deputy Rene Robles, after smelling alcohol on Valadezcruz’s breath and seeing open containers in his 1993 Mazda, searched the car and found about 1 3/4 pounds of cocaine, Horne said.
Valadezcruz, who was arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance for sale, was being held in Ventura County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bail, Sgt. Jeff Matson said.
