PREP ROUNDUP : Brown Powers Foothill Past Newport Harbor

Brian Brown scored seven goals to lead third-ranked Foothill to a 13-8 victory over ninth-ranked Newport Harbor in a nonleague water polo game Friday at Newport Harbor.
Five of Brown’s goals came in the first half, which ended with the score tied, 5-5. The Knights (14-3) scored five goals in the third quarter to take control.
Gabe Wyatt had three goals and Andy Betz had two for Newport Harbor (9-9). Robbie Arroyo scored twice for the Knights.
Ryan Brown had seven saves for Foothill, and Graham Harvey eight for the Sailors.
In other nonleague water polo:
Corona del Mar 15, Tustin 7--Neil Hueston scored seven goals and Doug Jetton recorded nine saves to lead host Corona del Mar (12-4).
Capistrano Valley 13, Los Alamitos 9--Charles Wierdsma scored four goals for visiting Capistrano Valley (10-12).
Riverside Poly 8, Esperanza 7--Brian Brown scored the eventual game-winning goal with three minutes left to lead Poly. Esperanza’s Mike Stanley scored his three goals in the fourth quarter, but Esperanza (13-6) failed to score on six shots in the last 30 seconds.
Jason Mericle had three goals and Peter Lange recorded 13 saves for the Aztecs.
San Clemente 9, El Toro 6--Andy Bailey had three goals and Gabe Gardner made 10 saves for visiting San Clemente (20-2). Greg Stoll had 14 saves for El Toro.
Villa Park 20, Long Beach Millikan 2--Brian Pharris scored seven goals to lead the visiting Spartans.
Villa Park (16-6) is ranked seventh in the county.
Woodbridge 5, Laguna Hills 4--Andrew Dober had two goals and Chad Wronka had 13 saves for visiting Laguna Hills (2-5).
In Orange League water polo:
Brea-Olinda 20, Western 2--Tad Murphy scored seven goals, Eric Matthews and Mo Degenhardt each scored three and Tim Bischel had nine saves for visiting Brea (19-3, 5-0).
The Wildcats, ranked No. 1 in Southern Section Division VI, have scored 40 goals in their last two games.
In the Estancia water polo tournament:
Santa Margarita 7, Cypress 6--Tony Bierenkoven and Ian Zakrzerski each had two goals and Steve Ferguson had eight saves to lead Santa Margarita (8-9). David Watkins had three goals for Cypress. Cypress (11-8) later beat Aliso Niguel, 15-1, in a consolation game.
In Academy League girls’ volleyball:
Connelly 3, Liberty Christian 1--Sarah Lazzari had seven kills and seven aces and Teresa Greely had four kills and four aces to lead visiting Connelly (5-3, 3-2) to a 12-15, 15-11, 15-9, 16-14 victory. Lynlee Vaccaro had 24 kills for Liberty Christian (4-8, 0-6).
In the Golden West League:
Ocean View 3, Rosary 0--Beth Henshaw had eight kills for visiting Ocean View (10-0, 6-0). Giovanna Francia had eight kills and Angela Armen had 18 assists for Rosary (4-7, 3-3).
Tustin 3, Saddleback 0--Stacey Pedersen had 15 kills to lead host Tustin (8-4, 5-1) over Saddleback 15-4, 15-4, 15-13. Nicole Wiora had five kills to lead Saddleback (4-8, 2-4).
In the Arrowhead League:
Southern California Christian 3, Anza Hamilton 0--Anne Cunningham had eight kills and Tiffany Cleveland had 16 assists for visiting Southern California Christian (4-2 in league).
