Hughes Aircraft Wins F-15 Radar Contract: Hughes’ Radar Systems group in El Segundo received the $152-million award from McDonnell Douglas Corp. to develop an upgraded radar for Air Force F-15 fighter jets. Hughes said more than 350 Air Force jets are candidates for the radar, as are an additional 350 F-15s used by Israel, Japan and Saudi Arabia. Hughes, a unit of General Motors Corp., said if all of these aircraft eventually get the upgraded radar, the program’s value to Hughes could reach $2 billion and help protect 1,500 jobs at Hughes and its subcontractors on the program.
