CAMARILLO : Officials Warn of Illegal Meat Sales

Concerned about reports that door-to-door solicitors are selling meat, poultry and fish illegally in Camarillo, Ventura County officials have warned that such products may be substandard and cost more than regular market prices.

Bill Korth, director of the county’s Weights and Measures Division, said street sales of meat are in violation of local and state laws.

“Attempts to sell meat, fish and poultry by the box or serving are illegal,” Korth said.

“California law states that these items can only be sold by net weight. If they are selling in the Camarillo area, you can be sure they are active in all areas of the county.”

Korth said that county residents are being advised not to confront the sellers but to report them to county officials, local police departments or city business license divisions.
