Gingrich Is Going Along on National Review Cruise

WASHINGTON — The two top leaders of the incoming Republican House majority are spending the weekend on an expense-paid Caribbean cruise with National Review subscribers discussing political affairs.
Rep. Newt Gingrich of Georgia, in line to become Speaker in the Republican-controlled House in January, said his expenses were being paid by the National Review and quipped: “I promised I’d be conservative.” The ship was scheduled to leave Miami on Friday and return on Monday, with a stop in the Bahamas.
Rep. Dick Armey of Texas, in line to become House majority leader, was also planning on attending, as was Sen. Trent Lott of Mississippi, a candidate for the No. 2 job in the Senate GOP leadership.
Ed Capano, publisher of the conservative magazine, said the cruise was advertised in the publication, and about 100 cabins had been sold at prices ranging from $895 to $1,095, including air fare.
Tony Blankley, Gingrich’s spokesman, said his boss and the other political leaders “will discuss political affairs with people on the boat.”
