BELL GARDENS : Vote May Create Link With Mexican City
- Share via
The city on Monday is expected to approve initiation of a sister city relationship with Patzcuaro in Michoacan, Mexico.
During November’s unveiling of bronze busts of John F. Kennedy and Luis Donaldo Colosio, the leading Mexican presidential candidate who was assassinated last year, the mayor of Patzcuaro and several other dignitaries from the central Mexican state of Michoacan declared their interest in establishing the city sisterhood.
It is the fourth time the initiation has been put to a vote. Some council members have expressed concerns the city may not have money to pay for the exchange programs.
But Councilman Rudy Garcia, who organized the purchase of the busts and who is requesting the sister city relationship, said the program will not use city funds. He did not explain how it would be funded.
