Breakup of LAUSD Is Not Worth Pursuing

A reader and subscriber to The Times since returning from the Army in 1946, I am always amazed when people like Assemblywoman Paula Boland take positions on issues that are popular at the moment and in most cases do not affect them (“Let Parents Have Vote on Staying in LAUSD,” Valley Commentary, Dec. 25).

She has the perception that breaking up the Los Angeles Unified School District--having several districts instead of one--would solve all the ills of society. Never mind the cost or additional distribution of funds to the various districts. More important, how would she divide the ethnicity of the present district among all the new districts formed?

This has not been given much thought and does not warrant the additional expenses and the energy of the other representatives.
