Jamie Vahoviak
SCHOOL: Burroughs
SPORT: Basketball
YEAR: Senior
SEASON AT A GLANCE: Vahoviak’s season began Saturday night after she missed the Indians’ first 16 games because of pregnancy. She gave birth to her daughter, Alexandra, on Dec. 27 and returned to the lineup 18 days later. “I couldn’t have done it without tremendous support from my family and Coach (Doug) Nicol,” she said. Without Vahoviak, a second-team All-Valley selection by The Times last season, the Indians were 7-9.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Vahoviak, a 5-foot-10 guard, was supposed to play approximately two minutes in her first game back against Foothill League power Hart. Instead, she played 18 minutes and was a key contributor in Burroughs’ 48-43 upset. Vahoviak had five points, six assists and two steals, but it was her ability to handle the ball against Hart’s defensive pressure in the final minutes that proved to be the difference.
