Soylular Gives Up Girls’ Coaching Job

Michael Soylular resigned as girls’ volleyball coach at Laguna Beach, the school announced Tuesday. Soylular will remain as the boys’ volleyball coach.
“I wasn’t burned out or anything,” Soylular said. “It was a logical decision for all involved parties. Now I can take a longer summer vacation and spend more time with the Laguna Beach Volleyball Club.”
Soylular helped build the club, which has 112 players, ages 8-18.
One of the reasons Soylular stepped down was a Southern Section regulation prohibiting club coaches to simultaneously work with high school players.
In four seasons under Soylular, the Artists won the 1991 Southern Section Division I championship and played in the State tournament all four years. Laguna Beach was 101-19 during Soylular’s tenure, winning four Pacific Coast League titles.
