EL CAMINO COLLEGE : President Schauerman Will Retire June 30

After 30 years at El Camino College--including the last seven as its top official--President Sam Schauerman has decided to retire at the end of June.
As president, he has emphasized improving services for minority students and creating closer ties between industry and the school.
Schauerman, 65, taught mathematics in his native Colorado before coming to El Camino as an administrative assistant in 1965. Before being appointed president, he served 10 years as vice president of instruction.
The college, which has an enrollment of more than 22,000 students, intends to find a replacement for Schauerman before his last day on June 30, said spokeswoman Mary Ann Keating. The school’s five-member Board of Trustees will select a new president after interviewing the top five applicants selected by a special committee, Keating said.
Schauerman has recommended that the new president receive an annual salary of $120,000. His salary is $108,000.
