Robinson Helicopters Remain Airborne: The Federal Aviation Administration announced an “interim” plan to deal with safety questions regarding the R22 and R44 small helicopters built by Robinson Helicopter Co. in Torrance, but the plan does not include grounding the aircraft as was recommended by the National Transportation Safety Board. The board suggested the action in early January in light of several fatal accidents. But the FAA said its plan includes advising pilots on how to avoid dangerous scenarios, reviewing pilot training and having an engineering panel further study the helicopters’ designs and accident histories.
