Coach: Rocky Ciarelli (11th year).
1994: 21-2, 14-0 in the Sunset League. Won the Division I championship, defeating Laguna Beach.
Key returners: Jeremy Bart, 6-3, outside hitter, Sr.; Jody Cook-Fisher, 6-1, outside hitter, Sr.; Greg Markham, 6-0, setter, Jr.; Zack Montgomery, 5-11, outside hitter, Sr.; Sean Tucker, 6-4, middle blocker, Sr.
Key newcomers: Matt Belikoff, 6-3, middle blocker, Sr.; Clay Chilcott, 6-6, outside hitter, Sr.; Scott Hinsche, 6-3, middle blocker, Sr.; Evan Hook, 6-2, outside hitter, Jr.; Dennis Masuda, 5-9, setter, So.; Travis Purcell, 6-1, outside hitter, Sr.
Outlook: Three-peat anyone? The Oilers won their second consecutive Division I title last season, but have some gaping holes to fill, including those left by Division I co-players of the year Mike Grave and Nick Ziegler. But Bart and Cook-Fisher are top-notch hitters and Ciarelli likes his young setters--Markham and Masuda--and the Oilers’ chances. “We could win again,” Ciarelli said. “But I think there are 10 other teams that think they can win it too.”
