Testing of Ocean Water

The League of Women Voters of Capistrano Bay Area feels county government abdicated its responsibility for public health precautions when it ceased its testing procedure for the coastline waters. Beach users are in jeopardy if local ocean waters are contaminated.
Testing of ocean waters is a public health responsibility. For county government, as announced by the Orange County Health Care Agency, to discontinue its weekly water quality testing along the Orange County coastline is a gamble. The bacteria level in local ocean waters can become dangerous quickly.
The League of Women Voters supports high standards of water quality. We urge county administration to seek an immediate remedy to revive this Orange County water quality program.
