SIMI VALLEY : 2 Students to Receive $1,000 Scholarships

The Ventura County Professional Firefighters Assn. will award $1,000 scholarships to two students during an April 24 presentation at Simi Valley City Hall.
Thomas Saenz, who will graduate from Royal High School this year and attend either UC Santa Barbara or UCLA, and Carrie Sitton of Thousand Oaks, who attends Humboldt State University, are this year’s winners of the Shane Kilgore Scholarships.
Kilgore, a Simi Valley native, was a 22-year-old U. S. Navy firefighter who died aboard the USS Midway while rescuing two shipmates during a fiery explosion in June, 1990.
Kilgore’s family and the firefighters union set up the scholarship fund shortly after his death.
