COMMUNITY COLLEGE GOLF : Saddleback Wins Conference Title By 23 Strokes

Saddleback, the defending State champion, dominated the field at the Orange Empire Conference golf championship, winning by 23 strokes in the 36-hole event Monday at Singing Hills Country Club in El Cajon.
It was the 13th conference title in 14 seasons for Saddleback and Coach Bill Cunerty, who was selected as the conference coach of the year.
Riverside’s Brad Neal was the medalist with rounds of 74 and 69 to finish at one under par (143). Cypress’ Brad Ricketts, the conference’s golfer of the year, shot 73-74--147. Saddleback was led by Ben Bost, who shot 76-74--150.
Saddleback finished at 757. Cuyamaca (780) was second, Cypress (783) third, Palomar (785) fourth and Riverside (800) fifth. The top three teams--Saddleback, Cuyamaca and Cypress--qualified for the Southern California tournament May 1 at Rancho California County Club.
The top four teams from Southern and Northern California meet May 8 in the State tournament at Del Rio Country in Modesto.
