GOLF ROUNDUP : Robbins Leads Sheehan by One Shot in LPGA

Kelly Robbins beat the afternoon wind, shooting a three-under-par 68 Friday morning to retain her lead in the second round of the $1.2-million LPGA Championship at Wilmington, Del.
Robbins’ 36-hole total of 134 left her one stroke ahead of Patty Sheehan, who also had a second-round 68 at the 6,386-yard DuPont Country Club.
Barb Thomas, who shot a 66 to share honors for the day’s best round with Joan Pitcock, and defending champion Laura Davies were at 136.
Robbins, with top-10 finishes at the last three tour stops, had four birdies and a bogey.

Ernie Els birdied half the Cottonwood Valley course as he shot a nine-under-par 61 to share the lead in the $1.3-million Byron Nelson Classic at Irving, Tex.
He was tied at 130 with Robin Freeman, who had a second-round 65, also at Cottonwood. They were one stroke ahead of Kenny Perry and Doug Martin.
Els’ score has been bettered only 11 times.

Bob Murphy, seeking his second consecutive senior victory and third of the year, shot a seven-under-par 65 to take a one-stroke lead over Don Bies after the opening round of the $950,000 Cadillac NFL Golf Classic at Clifton, N.J.
Tom Wargo and 1994 winner Raymond Floyd were tied at 67.
