Camping Trips Offered by Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is offering free and low-cost camping trips for eligible youngsters. Space is currently available for sessions July 26-31 and Aug. 16-21, a spokesman said.
Campers will spend five days at the Salvation Army’s Camp Gilmore in the Malibu mountains. The program is open to boys and girls from 7 to 12 years old, said spokesman John Covert.
Maximum fees are $20 per child and are based on a family’s ability to pay. Campers will hike, swim, learn crafts and participate in other activities, he said.
Salvation Army officials are seeking donations from churches, corporations and other groups to help fund the program, which serves 300 children each year, Covert said.
