Panorama City : Commanding Officer to Speak at Meeting

Capt. Richard Wemmer, the new commanding officer at the Van Nuys Division of the Los Angeles Police Department, will speak Sept. 20 at a neighborhood association meeting in Panorama City.
Wemmer, 47, of Fountain Valley is a 25-year LAPD veteran.
He has served as officer-in-charge of various units, including the Asian crime unit, Hollywood vice, the investigation section of the anti-terrorist division and at Los Angeles International Airport.
On Aug. 6, Wemmer replaced former Van Nuys Cmdr. Jim McMurray, who was promoted to commanding officer of the detective services group at LAPD headquarters.
Wemmer is married and has four children. He is a member of the California Peace Officers Assn., the Los Angeles County Police Officers Assn., the Los Angeles Police Revolver and Athletic Club and the board of directors of the Police Historical Society.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in police science and administration at Cal State Los Angeles and a master’s degree in public administration at Pepperdine University.
Wemmer will speak at 7:30 p.m. at the meeting of the Panorama City West Neighborhood Assn., which will be held in Rooms 209 and 210 at the Mission Community Medical Center, 14860 Roscoe Blvd.
