PREP ROUNDUP : Troy Sophomores Spark Tennis Victory

Troy’s three sophomore singles players won eight of nine sets to lead the Warriors to an 11-7 victory over Lynwood in a Southern Section Division III girls’ tennis wild-card match Tuesday at Troy High.
Irene Noguchi swept, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, as did Nancy Furukawa, 6-2, 6-0, 6-2. Meghan Riley, playing in only her second varsity match, won two of three sets.
Troy (13-4) advanced to the first round and will play Thursday at La Canada.
In Division IV girls’ tennis:
La Quinta 17, Lakewood Artesia 1--The Aztecs did not lose a game at singles as Jenny Ha swept, 6-1, 6-3, 6-0. Anna Tran also swept, 7-6, 6-2, 6-0, her first sweep of the season. La Quinta (9-7) travels to Quartz Hill Thursday.
Valencia 14, Lakewood 4--The host Tigers won eight of nine singles sets to advance to the first round. Valencia will play at fourth-seeded Los Angeles Brentwood Thursday.
In Division II boys’ water polo:
Los Alamitos 23, Cypress 9--The visiting Griffins led, 9-3, at halftime and never let up. John Pearce scored seven goals and Steve Hann added five for Los Alamitos (17-9), which advanced to play in the first round on Friday at Pacifica.
In Division VI:
Cerritos Whitney 10, Western 9 (OT)--Whitney advanced to the first round and will play Friday at Cerritos. Western finished 15-9.
