ANAHEIM — Savanna’s Eric Shine put on quite a show Thursday night against Magnolia.
Shine, a senior running back, rushed for 298 yards in 19 carries and scored four touchdowns, on runs of 65, 93, 42, and five yards, to pace the Rebels to a 34-0 victory over Magnolia at Glover Stadium in Orange League play.
Shine has rushed for 1,984 yards this season, and in the first half, had 215 yards in eight carries, a 28.6-yard average.
Brandon Bird got Savanna (7-3, 3-2 in league) rolling.
After the Rebels stopped Magnolia (2-8, 0-5) on its opening possession, Bird took a James Penner punt on Savanna’s 29 and raced down the near sideline for a touchdown and a 6-0 lead 1 minute 20 seconds into the game.
Then, with 3:05 left in the first quarter, Shine ran 65 yards to give Savanna a 14-0 lead.
In the second quarter, Magnolia got to the Savanna six-yard line, but on fourth and one, Jorge Martinez was dropped for a one-yard loss by Shine.
On the next play, Shine raced 93 yards untouched to give Savanna a 21-0 lead.
