Enron Project in India May Be Back on Track: Enron Development Corp. has made a breakthrough that could pave the way for the resumption of a $2.8-billion power project that was canceled in August, a company official said. The Houston-based company reached an agreement with an expert committee set up by the Maharashtra state to study the canceled Dabhol Power Co. project, said Vrinda Walavalkar, an Enron spokeswoman. The Maharashtra state Cabinet is now expected to make a final decision by Dec. 10 on whether to allow Enron to resume work on the power project that would be the largest foreign investment in India, Walavalkar said. The power project was canceled by the government over concerns about high cost and environmental impact.
