ENCINO — A 47-year-old Lancaster man was killed Wednesday when a pile of plywood he was unloading from a truck fell on him, Los Angeles police said.
The man, a father of four whose name was not made public pending notification of relatives, was unloading the stack of plywood from a truck at a construction site in the 4400 block of N. Bergamo Drive about 2:45 p.m. when the chain holding the wood in place snapped, LAPD Sgt. Alan Sorkness said.
The man caught the stack and tried to maneuver it back onto the truck, but it toppled over, crushing him, Sorkness said. He died at the scene.
“Awful things just seem to happen this time of the year,” LAPD Lt. Tony Alba said. “Seems they’re magnified by their proximity to the holidays.”
