Titan Catcher Brambilla to Transfer

FULLERTON — Mike Brambilla, a redshirt freshman catcher, has left the Cal State Fullerton baseball team and is planning to transfer to Rancho Santiago College, Titan associate head coach George Horton said Wednesday.
“He was disappointed that he was not going to make the first trip to Stanford and was concerned about his playing time this season,” Horton said. “He felt he might have more opportunity to develop by playing somewhere else.”
Brian Loyd, one of the nation’s top college catchers, is No. 1 at the position and sophomore Mike Lamb is his backup. Loyd probably will be the designated hitter in the season opener Friday at Stanford, because his throwing arm is not at full strength because of an injury. Lamb is scheduled to catch.
Brambilla was the most valuable player in the Orange League during his senior season at Brea Olinda High.
