Victor Browning’s dying wish was to ride in his baby blue Cadillac from Wimberley to his nephew’s crematorium in California. So a day after Browning died at 83, his son and grandson strapped his embalmed body in the backseat of the 1990 Seville and drove 1,300 miles to Victorville, Calif. They were stopped at the California state line by a border guard, who “looked at my daddy and said, ‘Sir, how you doing?’ ” the son said. “I said, ‘Oh, he’s been sleeping since we left Texas,’ The officer said, ‘Well, he sure is sleeping sound,’ ” then waved them through, he said.
