In nonconference baseball:
Ohio State 2, Long Beach State 1--Rocky Biddle pitched seven innings, giving up five hits and striking out eight, but took the loss as the 49ers (10-6) had their eight-game winning streak stopped.
The teams will play a split-session doubleheader today, with games at 1:05 p.m. and 7:05 p.m.
In nonconference women’s gymnastics:
Cal State Fullerton 191.325, Cal State Sacramento 186.125--Cal State Fullerton’s Katy Maty won the all-around, winning the balance beam (9.80) and floor exercise (9.775).
In nonconference men’s tennis:
Chapman 7, Whittier 2--After losing the first two singles matches, Chapman won the rest. Juan Melchor won at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-0.
In the Hall of Fame men’s volleyball tournament:
Ball State 3, Long Beach State 1--Tom Hoff had 22 kills and Geoffrey Cryst 17 for the second-ranked 49ers (10-3), who fell to ninth-ranked Ball State, 40-30, 41-38, 39-42, 40-31.
