VAN NUYS — A Reseda man whose blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit for drivers crashed into a school bus carrying four children Thursday afternoon, but no one was seriously injured, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
Michael John Shelby Sr., 43, was driving east at about 25 to 30 mph on Roscoe Boulevard when he hit the bus at the intersection of Cedros Avenue, according to CHP Officer Mike Curtin. The bus was carrying children from Topeka Drive Elementary School in Northridge, the CHP said.
Shelby’s pickup, straddling the right lane, hit the back end of the school bus, Curtin said.
No one was hospitalized, and neither vehicle sustained significant damage.
Shelby was taken to Van Nuys jail and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, Curtin said.
