Baker Struggles but Keeps Lead

Tom Baker went 4-4 in the first round of match play Thursday but maintained the top spot at the AC Delco Classic at Cal Bowl in Lakewood heading into the final day of competition.
Baker, of Buffalo, N.Y., is averaging 227.50 after 26 games with a 6.035 pinfall total.
Jeff Morin, of Rockaway, N.J., went 5-3 in match play and held the top spot for several games early in the session before falling to second. He is averaging 225.73 with a 6.019 pinfall total.
Jess Stayrook, of Tempe, Ariz., is third, averaging 222.27 with a 5,959 pinfall total.
The top five after today will advance to Saturday’s finals.
