Brewers Asking Players for Help

The Milwaukee Brewers, apparently experiencing a cash-flow problem, have asked several players to defer part of their salaries until after the season, seeking $1.5 million in relief.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Brewers asked six of their eight players earning more than $1 million this season to defer part of that income, offering to pay it with interest at the end of the season.

St. Louis placed third baseman Gary Gaetti on the 15-day disabled list because of a broken little toe, suffered in a home accident. The Cardinals activated shortstop Ozzie Smith. . . . Montreal center fielder Rondell White was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a bruised kidney, suffered when he ran into a wall making a catch. . . . The Colorado Rockies promoted left-hander Mike Farmer, 27, from Triple-A Colorado Springs and sent down Brian Rekar and his 13.97 earned-run average.
