Fire Comes Close to Ranch Houses

SANTA CLARITA — A 125-acre brush fire threatened homes in the 28800 block of Bouquet Canyon Road on Friday but was 95% contained by 4 p.m., said Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Greg Cleveland.
The blaze started at 12:45 p.m. and about an hour later came within about 400 yards of several ranch houses. It forced some residents to water their roofs as a precaution, as light winds slowly blew the fire down a steep ridge.
Lorraine Burros and a few neighbors used three garden hoses to soak her three-bedroom house.
“I was afraid those flying embers would spark the roof,” Burros said as she watched firefighters mopping up.
About 180 firefighters, aided by two fixed-wing planes and a helicopter, extinguished the blaze. Its cause is under investigation.
